Flax Seeds

Lately I have felt like we needed to add a bit more flax to our diet and of course I think raw and soaked is best! So I made GreenSmoothieGirl's flax crackers this week and we have been enjoying them! They are pretty tasty plain or you can dip them in Salsa or Cheezy Sauce or slice veggies and have on them. Avocado and/or slices of tomato would be very good! Also they are very good crumbled up on a salad!

Some other good ways to add more flax to your diet would be to throw some seed and/or flax seed oil in with your smoothies. I like to grind some up and add it to my granola AFTER it's baked it's not soaked that way but it is still raw! I also make some really good Maple Walnut Cookies (A recipe that came from my sister and that I just realized is NOT on here! I will fix that soon!) that uses lots of ground flax and are so tasty! Also my Rice Crispy Treats use ground flax! (Oh my heck I thought that recipe was on here too! And I thought I was running out of really Simple, Healthy, Tasty recipes to post! I better be taking some time to do some serious blogging!) What tasty ways have you found to add more flax into your diet?

We too have tried to add more flax to our diet. I just add it to whatever I can- pancakes, smoothies... I even have sprinkled it on pasta or in lasagna. I have a recipe for flax muffins that is amazing and I will try to post it on my recipe blog soon.

I am so excited to have found your blog. I am going to try a ton of your recipes this coming week. Thanks. You have intrigued me, however. I am curious about your anti dairy stance. Can you explain that to me? I am trying to be as healthy as I can, but there is so much information out there, it is hard to know what is propaganda and what isn't. Thanks.

Amy, I have not really "preached" alot on here about my stance on dairy because I have seen many people with very different opinions. I'm not necessarily "anti-dairy" I am open to using it if I feel it would help my family and I get some things that we are lacking. Lately I have thought a lot about making kiefer out of raw goats milk but then found out you could use Young coconut milk also. I think I would like to try that first. Mostly I want that because I feel we need to get more live active good bacteria also known as friendly flora in our diet.

Here has been my opinion on dairy. Aside from all the propaganda, big dairy business stuff, hormones and antibiotics given to cows. I have for a very long time felt that milk from another animal was meant for that animals baby. I like to think how did "Nature" or God intend for things to be? I especially have looked at a cow! A calf is born usually at about 80 pounds and grows to be over 600 pounds in the first year topping up to over 1000 in the second year! They also have 4 stomachs that is very different from humans. I just did not feel that it was meant to feed humans ESPECIALLY baby humans. The protein is much too concentrated and can be very hard on a little ones system. I think that is part of the reason so many people are lactose intolerant and/or allergic to dairy.

Well there you have it that is my opinion. I'm sure others would disagree with me but I always come back to wondering what Nature may have intended. I do think in it's raw form it's better because it still has some enzymes and is easier to digest. And definatly goats milk just because they are so much smaller would be better then cows milk for humans. That's where I'm at right now it doesn't mean that I won't learn more and find I would like to add some animal products back into our diet if we find we are lacking. But so far I have had this similar diet for about 8 years and have been very pleased with our health!

I am anxious to make those crackers. I have craved those ever since Irene used to make them and sell them at the store. I always wanted to make my own, but needed someone to "walk" me through doing it first. Thanks to the green smoothie girl and you, someone finally did. And now I can! Thank you! I love you. Mom

What was the name of the soy sauce she uses in this recipe? I also looked at her site; does she have a recipe for her green smoothie or is it just a product she sells?

Thank you for your blog. I'm so excited to try everything! I heard about this blog on the Biokinetic Home Learning Center, so maybe we'll get to know each other through there. I just wanted to agree with your anti-dairy stance. I have read research about all of the reasons you've listed. For me personally, I'm so much healthier without dairy. Joint pain went away when I quit using it and my kids quit getting ear infections. My face also slimmed down, which was great! I've just discovered coconut milk and I'm in heaven. I love it! Most people don't realize all of the great sources of calcium out there, like broccoli. Anyway, thanks for all your effort and for sharing this with us.

Carla: She uses Nama Shoyu you could also use Liquid Aminos if you wanted. She sells her recipes by way of download she has lots of great info and recipes. Also I think she is coming out with a book this Spring called Green Smoothie Rx! I also have a few green smoothie and other smoothie recipes on my blog. Just go to the smoothie lable on the side bar! ENJOY! Green Smoothies are a great easy way to start getting more greens into your diet!

Jen: Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you!!! So many people think it is so radical and limiting to have a diet like mine. I really have found quite the opposite to be true! I so appreciate your comments! I think it's good for people to hear more then one wittness of another view point. It can help others gain confidence to decide what will work best for them!

Thanks again! ;)

I don't think I've ever seen a big bottle of garlic like she used either, although she said she got it at Wal-Mart. Any ideas on that one? That would be great to have on hand for storage.

Good Stuff Tam....but I am afraid everyone is wondering when in the sam-hill you're going to post that rice-crispy treat recipe! :)

Love you tons, Em

Sorry Em, things have been very busy around here! I hope to do some posting very soon!

Carla: I have seen them at Costco. But I also noticed that they have more then just garlic in them. Some preservative of some sort. I prefer to just use fresh garlic. The other may be good for food storage though. I wonder how long it keeps. Of course dehydrated garlic may work well too and not have the preservatives. Just my thoughts! ;)

I have wanted to make crackers and now that I've seen how easy it is I don't have any more excuses! I need more crunch in my life. As if veggies aren't crunchy enough.
