Philly Cheese Steak, Tam's Way!

Philly Cheese Steak

I have noticed that a lot of the things not coming up when you search my blog are things posted when I first started my blog.  I'm going to try bringing them forward to see if it helps.  Those of you who have been with me from the beginning will get a blast from the past and those who are new here will enjoy seeing some of the favorites that we are still enjoying!

Be sure to notice that if the search isn't helping you find what you want that there is a link below it..... click on "Search not working?  Click here!"  you will get a list of all my posts in alphabetical order.  From there you can find the post if you know the title of it or you can go to it and press Ctrl F at the same time on your computer, it will bring up a little find box you can type the word or words you know are in the title!  I know it's not quite as simple but you should be able to find most of what you are looking for that way!  Also if you don't remember the exact name of the post etc. please just email me and I will be happy so send you the link to the recipe you are looking for.

Sorry the search hasn't worked very good!  I wish I was better at all this technical stuff!   I hope some day we can get it figured out because I know it makes finding things so much easier!  In the meantime enjoy some of the early posts and try my ideas...hopefully some of these things will help! And if you know more about Google search then I do maybe you could give me some direction! ;)

Homemade cheese steak

"Philly Cheese Steak" Tam's Way
1 Loaf whole grain subway style hogi
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
1 Onion cut in strips
1 green bell pepper cut into strips (we used red in the last ones cause that's what we had but I prefer green for this recipe)
8 or more ounces Mushrooms sliced (we have used button or Portobello mushrooms both are good)
2 Tablespoons (or to taste;) Nama Shoyu
2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
2 Tablespoons Sucanat
dash of pepper and any other seasonings you prefer such as garlic or basil
one recipe of "Vegan Mozzarella Cheese" (below) or Cheezy Sauce  made thinner and/or warmed is good too

Cut the hogi in half length wise or you can slice it in individual slices if you prefer! Toast the bread on the griddle or in the oven. And place on large baking sheet. In Large frying pan saute rest of ingredients EXCEPT for "Cheese" until crisp tender. Then place all the vegetables and prepared cheese on one half of the loaf. You may add some sliced tomato and olives to the top of that (very yummy) I like to put the whole thing in the oven at this point to broil for just a minute to warm everything up. DON'T BURN!

Cheese Steak w/o cheese or steak

Vegan Mozzarella Cheese
1 cup water
2 small cloves roasted garlic (I don't always roast the garlic;)
2 T fresh lemon juice
1 - 2 T tahini (the larger amount makes it cheesier)
1/4 cup nutritional yeast
3 T rolled oats
1 T arrowroot (or cornstarch)
1/8 t dry mustard
1.5 t onion powder
1/2 t salt

Place all ingredients in a food processor or blender, and process until completely smooth. Pour into a small saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until smooth and thick. Pour over "Philly Cheese Steak," Pizza, or what ever you think it would be good on;) Cook the sauce until you reach the consistency you want - it will thicken right up to a spread if you let it. If you're going to have it sit while you assemble the pizza or whatever, stop cooking when it's a little on the thin side and cover the pot. It thickens as it cools.Optional additions: 1/2 T mellow (white/light) miso
For a smoked mozzarella, add 1/8 t liquid hickory smoke

Do you have a good source to buy nutritional yeast?

madeline: I usually get mine at The Good Earth or through Azure it's about the same cost. I have seen it at Winco too. You can find it in the bulk sections of these stores. Or for those not local most any health food store should carry it. You want the yellow flakes not brewers yeast or bread yeast.
